Candles on St Catherine's Hill was held on Sunday where people turned out to watch beautiful, individually decorated bags make a glowing path up to the chapel at the top the hill. The annual event commemorates St Catherine of Alexandria " an important early catholic martyr to whom the chapel is dedicated to. The date of the tradition is chosen to coincide as near as possible to the feast day of St Catherine on November 25, also known as St Catherine's Day. Bags are decorated and then filled with sand to keep them weighed down and an LED candlelight is laid inside, which helps illuminate the hill as the sun goes down, creating a spectacular sight.
