Corrupt Chinese officials have found a way to circumvent harsh legislation
9+ min ago (151+ words) Chinese officials, given the severity of Chinese law against corruption, continue to find loopholes to implement, to put it mildly, dubious schemes. SCMP is publishing a report that claims Chinese officials at various levels are using entirely legal mechanisms to avoid being labeled by law enforcement agencies as bribe-takers and embezzlers. This scheme became apparent during the on-site documentation audit, when it suddenly became clear that documents existed for which no actual hearings or votes had been held. In recent years, systematic procedures and requirements have been introduced in many places to standardize collective decision-making, including mandatory public hearings and transparency mechanisms on issues closely related to the public interest. However, these rules and procedures are either ignored or deliberately distorted by some officials. The report cites the example of an unnamed secretary of a city's Communist Party committee who…...

Antitrust probe at the heart of the fight The legal move is closely tied to an ongoing CCI investigation initiated in 2022 after complaints from Match Group (owners of Tinder) and several Indian startups.
