BAPTIST HISTORY: William Cathcart, editor of remarkable Baptist Encyclopedia, was born 100 years ago
1+ day, 18+ hour ago (226+ words) Born in Northern Ireland, William Cathcart was raised in a devout Presbyterian family. While studying for the ministry, he came across Alexander Carson's book "Baptism in its Mode and Subjects."" ONEIDA BAPTIST INSTITUTE: Proud of our athletes on and off field
3+ week, 1+ hour ago (350+ words) Oneida Baptist Institute repeated as regional soccer champion this fall. Oneida Baptist Institute's boys' soccer team gave us quite a ride with a Final Four appearance, consecutive regional championships and a combined 38-9 record in the past two years. The journey has been a lot of fun and has generated a tremendous amount of school spirit and pride for our little school. While we are proud of these young men for their accomplishments on the field, we are prouder of them for who they are off the field and the way they have represented Christ. They have been quick to give the Lord honor and praise in victory and even in defeat. These boys love the game and spend every possible waking moment on our soccer field, but, more importantly, they love Jesus and each other. I wish I could tell…...
FIRST-PERSON: An attitude of gratitude
6+ day, 15+ hour ago (442+ words) Once upon a time, a mother and her 4-year-old daughter were making their way through an outdoor market in the town where they lived. Spotting the little child staring at a large display of oranges, the generous vendor took one from the table and gave it to her. "What do you say to the nice man?" the mother asked. Looking at the orange, the child pointed it toward the man and said, "Peel it!" This is a "cute" little story, one which might trigger a chuckle. Yet, in all seriousness, it illustrates a prevailing attitude that permeates our culture, one of entitlement and lack of appreciation. Someone said, "never in history have people had more, yet appreciated it less." While that may be true, a lack of thankfulness is certainly nothing new. Luke's Gospel records the account of Jesus healing…...
