Siouxlanders support STEMM at the 28th annual ‘Night of Hope’ fundraiser
2+ week, 2+ day ago (347+ words) DAKOTA DUNES, S.D. (KTIV) - For 29 years, the Siouxland Tanzania Educational Medical Ministries, also known as STEMM, has helped thousands of kids half-a-world away. On Thursday, Nov. 13, STEMM held its largest fundraiser of the year to support that mission. STEMM's 28th annual "Night of Hope' took place at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Dakota Dunes, S.D. There, hundreds of people gathered for a silent and live auction to raise money towards their cause. STEMM is an evangelical organization that tries to meet all of the needs in Tanzania, particularly for children in medicine, education, and community development. The organization has sent more than 20,000 kids through high school and university in Tanzania and serves a hot lunch program which provides meals for 6,000 students a day. The Diocese of Sioux City is giving $100,000 to parishes during the government shutdown
3+ week, 2+ day ago (257+ words) SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The Diocese of Sioux City is making a $100,000 donation to area parishes to be used for emergency funds for food assistance. The diocese says this is in response to the federal funding impact on SNAP. Each parish is receiving $2,500 and can be used for community food pantries, purchasing gift cards or food vouchers, or to supplement an existing parish food distribution program. The diocese estimates that over 36,000 families in the diocese receive SNAP benefits, affecting an estimated 41,000 people. Sacred Heart Catholic Church is also getting $2,500 and will soon discuss what it will do with the money. But in the meantime, the parish is in the middle of several drives and fundraisers.
