Temple in Japan's Kamakura hosts memorial service for Myanmar earthquake victims

3+ week, 3+ day ago (255+ words) November 6, 2025 (Mainichi Japan) KAMAKURA, Kanagawa -- A memorial service was held at Kotoku-in temple here on Nov. 4 to honor the victims of an earthquake that struck Myanmar in March. The service also included prayers for peace in that country where civil war continues. Monks, not only from Japan but also from Myanmar who reside in Japan, chanted sutras. The event was organized by Kentaro Hayashi, 51, a doctor from Kamakura, who stated, "I want to pray for the more than 3,500 quake victims and for a swift end to the civil war." Hayashi has been involved with Doctors Without Borders since 2004 and founded a humanitarian aid organization in Myanmar.
