A group tied with the international Hare Krishna movement says its plans for the site will be a welcome addition for the local Hindu community; however, some nearby residents concerned about safety, traffic and other impacts have organized to oppose the proposal. The Escondido Planning Commission approved the project 5-1 at its Sept. 25 meeting after more than 80 people spoke or registered their position for the plans. There will be a carnival Nov. 22 with games, chili cook-off, live music and food drive to benefit the Sanctuary Pantry along with an "Amazing Race" through historic Oceanside places. On Nov. 23, there will be a sesquicentennial worship service commemorating 150 years of ministry. Over the years, the church grew from 13 members to several hundred and moved into four different buildings. It called itself different names, but remained the same congregation with the same mission.
