California’s Oldest AME Church Celebrates Historic 175th Anniversary

On Nov. 15-16. the congregation celebrated its 175th anniversary with a special church service and a "living museum" event in Sacramento." Clergy, local elected officials, church auxiliary groups and other well-wishers gathered for the two-day celebration, which honored the founding of the faith community, the ongoing mission of the church, and the legacy it continues to uphold. Though small in stature, LaToya had a bold and loving spirit. She was feisty, full of humor, and warm hearted. Over 33,000 Buddhist students started university in the UK in 2023-24, for instance, alongside 769,220 Christian and 37,520 Sikh students. Universities have a role to play in helping their students relate to others of different religious backgrounds, especially at a time of concern over antisemitism and Islamophobia on campus. This year, he says they purchased 800 turkeys, tons of potatoes, a can good, Jiffy corn mix, cranberry sauce, and even dinner rolls ready to be baked and served. Over 25 volunteers spent several days putting the bags of groceries together to be given out with the turkeys at the drive-thru pickup last Saturday morning.
