1+ week, 2+ day ago (193+ words) BREWER, Maine (WABI) - Maine families and churches are coming together this week to pack gift-filled shoeboxes for children in need around the world. It's all part of Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan's Purse. You can take part by packing a shoebox full of toys, school supplies, and personal care items for children in need and drop them off during National Collection Week. This year, Operation Christmas Child hopes to collect shoeboxes throughout Maine to help with the global goal to reach another 12 million children. Calvary Baptist Church in Brewer is one of dozens of drop off locations across the state. They've collected more than 5,4000 boxes with a goal to collect 15,000 before Monday.
