HISTORIC EVENT: Lac Du Flambeau Tribe celebrates 'healing' return of land from nunnery

The Marywood Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration transferred the facility to the Lac Du Flambeau Tribe, who were the original caretakers of the land. The ceremony took place at noon along Highway 51, with more than a 100 people in attendance. The Tribe performed a number of ceremonies and songs to celebrate the transfer and honor the newly acquired land. "It's a momentous opportunity for us, and not just because we're getting our land back but because they are doing it in truth and in healing and reconciliation which has never been seen before," said Araia Breedlove, LDF Tribe Public Relations Director.
