Beware the “Soloists” – A Concern for the “Solos”: Sola Fide, Sola Scriptura, Sola Gratia
5+ day, 4+ hour ago (844+ words) There are a lot of "solos" sung by our Protestant brethren: sola fide (saved by faith alone), sola Scriptura (Scripture alone is the rule of faith), and sola gratia (grace alone). Generally, one ought to be leery of claims that things work "alone." Typically, many things work together in harmony; things are interrelated. Very seldom is anyone or anything really "alone." The problem with "solos" emerges (it seems to me) in our mind, where it is possible to separate things out; but just because we can separate something out in our mind does not mean that we can do so in reality. Consider, for a moment, a candle's flame. In my mind, I can separate the heat of the flame from its light, but I could never put a knife into the flame and put the heat of the flame…...

1+ week, 2+ day ago (728+ words) Inspired by the shrine's history and mission, the new hymn invites pilgrims to reflect on Our Lady's message and maternal protection. A newly composed sacred hymn " The Champion Hymn " debuted at the Oct. 9 solemnity in Wisconsin, honoring the Church's first approved Marian apparition in the United States. Bishop David Ricken celebrated the Mass on Oct. 9 honoring her in this first approved apparition in the United States. One verse recalls and describes when our Blessed Mother first appeared to the young girl Adele Brise: Another of the eight verses points to Adele's mission of teaching the children, proclaiming: The hymn reflects the thought of the Peshtigo fire from which Our Lady saved Adele and all the people who gathered at the chapel where the shrine now stands, but at the same time it extends that to Our Lady's continuous protection of…...
Fees for Church Entrance & the Dwindling Funds for Sacred Music
1+ week, 3+ day ago (1220+ words) "Admission to concerts in churches must be free of charge." Fees for Church Entrance & the Dwindling Funds for Sacred Music Some people traveling around Italy have found themselves in front of churches and basilicas that require an entrance ticket for admission and visitation. Of course, this fee is not for participation in liturgical celebrations. However, if someone wished to enter for a devout visit (that is, not purely touristic, but inspired by a spiritual desire) in order to pray before the works of art preserved in those churches, they would still have to pay an entrance fee. It is true that churches and basilicas sometimes face very high maintenance costs, so one can understand that some of them must find ways to raise the funds necessary for proper upkeep. That said, charging admission to enter a church is not without…...
